Numerals atau Number

Numeral atau Numbers adalah angka yang digunakan untuk menyebutkan keterangan jumlah, urutan atau kuantitas suatu nomina.

Setelah hari kemarin kita membahas tentang cardinal number, maka izinkanlah sekarang saya untuk membahas tentang ordinal number. Saya yakin teman-teman masih ada yang bingung cara penulisan ordinal number dalam Bahasa Inggris. Untuk itu mari kita simak materi terkait ordinal number.

Ordinal Number (bilangan bertingkat)

Ordinal number (bilangan bertingkat) atau dapat juga disebut “ordinal numeral adjective” adalah bilangan yang digunakan untuk menunjukan tingkatan, misalnya pertama, kedua, ketiga, keempat, kelima, keenam, dan seterusnya.

#Note:

1. Ordinal number dibentuk dengan menambahkan akhiran “th” diakhir dari cardinal number selain angka 1, 2 dan 3.

Contoh :

1 (one)	1^st (first)
2 (two)	2^nd (second)
3 (three)	3^rd (third)
4 (four)	4^th (forth)
100 (hundred)	100^th (hundredth)

2. Dalam pengucapan ordinal number tidak menggunakan kata “and” setelah bilangan ratusan. Misalnya :

Cardinal number : 281 (two hundred and eighty one)
Ordinal number : 281^st (two hundred eighty-first)

Fungsi ordinal number :

1. Untuk menyatakan tingkatan. Misalnya

The girl who sit on that chair is my first sister. (perempuan yang duduk di kursi itu adalah saudara perempuan pertama saya)
My room is in the sixth floor. (kamar saya ada di lantai enam)

2. Untuk menyatakan tanggal. Misalnya :

I was born on the twenty eight of June, nine teen ninety. (saya lahir pada tanggal 28 Juni 1990)
She was born on October 25^th, 2000. (dia lahir pada tanggal 25 Oktober 2000)

Contoh lain dalam kalimat :

This is my first time I join a music class. (Ini merupakan pertama kalinya saya bergabung di dalam kelas musik)
I want to give the second question for you. (Saya ingin memberikanmu pertanyaan kedua)
She will be your third client. (Dia akan menjadi klien ketigamu)
