Numerals atau Number

Numeral atau Numbers adalah angka yang digunakan untuk menyebutkan keterangan jumlah, urutan atau kuantitas suatu nomina.

Untuk kesempatan sekarang saya akan membahas tentang cardinal number.

Cardinal number (bilangan biasa)

Cardinal number atau biasa juga disebut cardinal numeral adjective adalah bilangan biasa tau bilangan pokok yang ditunjukan dengan angka. Berikut adalah bilangan yang termasuk dalam cardinal number :

Contoh cardinal number dalam kalimat:

1. I have ten students in the class.
2. She gives me two oranges.
3. They bring those two big bags.
4. There are twenty five people in the room.
5. He was the fourteenth person to win the award since 1934.
6. Six hundred thousand people were left homeless after the earthquake.

Note:

1. Bilangan satuan atau bilangan pulhan yang tergabung dalam bilangan ratusan atau ribuan, dibaca dengan menambahkan kata “and”

Misalnya :

• 101 = one hundred and one
• 5,050 = five thousand and fifty

2. Dalam bentuk ratusan atau ribuan, penulisanya tidak perlu ada penambahan huruf “s” dibelakang kata “hundred” dan “thousand”

Misalnya :

• 900 = nine hundred ( bukan nine hundreds)
• 7,000 = seven thousand (bukan seven thousands)

3.  Dalam bahasa Inggris, untuk memisahkan angka dalam bentuk ribuan atau jutaan bahkan miliarana menggunakan tanda “koma” bukan tanda “titik”.

Misalnya :

• “Four thousand” ditulis 4,000
• “Ninety thousand nine hundred” ditulis 9,900
• “One million” ditulis 1,000,000

4.  Untuk memisahkan bilangan desimal dalam bahasa Inggris menggunakan tanda “titik” dan dibaca satu persatu serta tanda “titik” diucapkan menggunakan kata “point”.

Misalnya :

• “Enam belas koma nol enam” ditulis 16.06 dan dibaca sixteen point zero six
• “Dua puluh koma dua puluh” di tulis 20.20 dan  dibaca twenty point two zero
• “Satu koma enam ribu enam ratus tujuh puluh lima” ditulis 1,6675 dan dibaca one point six six seven zero
• “Seratus koma tujuh lima” ditulis 100,75 dan dibaca one hundred point seven five
• “Seribu koma satu” ditulis 1000.1 dibaca a hundred point one
